Pakistani journalist and filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy’s documentary ‘A Girl In The River: The Price of Forgiveness’ has won the Oscar at the 88th Academy Award Ceremony.
A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness is a story of an 18 year old girl who is a survivor of an honour killing attempt.
After accepting the Oscar award Sharmeen said,
“I have another one!”
She further said,
“This week the Pakistani PM said he would change the law on honor killing after watching this film — that is the power of film!”

This is Sharmeen’s second Oscar award for best short documentary in her professional career. She has also won the Oscar for her short documentary “Saving Face” in 2012.
